Employment Law
Legal problems in the workplace are devastating to both workers and employers. Employees who experience wrongful treatment on the job can find it difficult to get through the work day or, worse yet, may find themselves unemployed as a result of someone else’s wrongful conduct. As an employer, difficulties in the workplace disrupt productivity and can have a direct impact on your bottom line. Whether you are an employee or an employer in a work-related dispute, we can help.

We represent employees, as well as government and private employers, in a wide range of disputes arising in the workplace, including allegations of:
Workplace Discrimination – We can help employees who believe they have been subjected to discriminatory treatment on the job and guide them through their available options. We also guide employers in how to avoid and defend against claims of discrimination.
Harassment, including Sexual Harassment – We know what needs to be proven to sustain a claim for sexual harassment, as well as claims of workplace harassment based on race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, pregnancy, and disability. We can assist employees who have been victims of harassment, and we consult with employers who want to minimize exposure to harassment claims.
Retaliation – Employees who exercise certain legal rights cannot be penalized for doing so. We represent employees in bringing claims of retaliation. For employers, we offer counseling to help them avoid retaliation claims and we represent them in defending such claims.
Wrongful discharge or termination – We represent employees and employers in cases involving claims of wrongful termination in breach of an employment contract or in violation of law or public policy.
Whistleblower Protection – Employees who make legitimate reports of wrongful acts of a company have certain protections under the law, but there may be limits to that protection. We can help employees and employers understand their rights and obligations.
Family and Medical Leave – Requests for medical or family leave present unique and complicated issues for both the employee and employer, and we can help you navigate this complex area of the law.
Disability Accommodation – We provide guidance to employers and employees when making or responding to a request for reasonable accommodation on the job relating to a disability.
Severance Agreements – We negotiate, draft and review agreements which terminate the employment relationship and clarify the parties’ rights and obligations to one another after termination.
Unemployment Compensation – We provide guidance to employers and employees relating to an employee’s right to receive unemployment compensation benefits and appear on behalf of employees and employers in actions seeking an award of unemployment compensation benefits.
Wage, Hour and Overtime Disputes, including Independent Contractor Misclassification – We represent workers and employers in wage and hour disputes, including controversies regarding payment of overtime, paid time off, and other benefits as well as whether an individual has been properly classified as an independent contractor.
Employee Handbooks – To minimize legal problems in the workplace, we can help employers create, update, and implement comprehensive employment policies tailored to their specific workplace and industry.
Independent Investigations – We advise attorneys, in-house counsel and organizational leaders about the best practices for conducting ethical, effective, and cost-efficient internal investigations. In addition, we conduct internal investigations on behalf of employers and governmental agencies. Our internal investigation work could include a broad range of services, including providing compliance and training programs.
